ECM's mission is to invite both religious and non-religious young adults in the (Kansas State) university community to engage the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Led by campus minister David Jones, there are currently fifteen young adults on our Leadership Team who serve from their passion to coordinate various outreach ministries, such as a Sunday evening Dinner and Discussion, a Wednesday night Brewing on Belief that meets in "Aggieville," a popular off-campus district for student socializing, a Thursday evening Prayerful Yoga group and a Friday noontime meal event, Real Food Lunch. Some members of our Leadership Team serve as liaisons to collaborating groups on campus, such as Better Together (an Interfaith Youth Core-inspired group), Students for Environmental Action and the LGBT community. We also have active ministries engaged in community service on a local level and regularly offer service-learning trips in an international setting--most recently in Ecuador. In addition to the Leadership Team, the community consists of 75-100 active participants each semester, an affinity group three times that size, plus an active and vital group of intergenerational stakeholders from both the university and our local religious and social justice communities. A recent grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc. has allowed to further build our capacity for ministry by developing programs fostering the theological exploration of vocation. Such ministries include student internships in area congregations, the formation of a worship outreach team, a mentoring program and the establishment of an annual theologian-in-residence lectureship. The community is also currently engaged in building a new 5,823 square-foot ministry center one block from campus. The new campus center, slated for completion in February 2015, will house eight ECM students living in a covenant community in two four-bedroom apartments, one located below and the other above a main floor dedicated to serving as a home base and launching pad for our campus ministry activities.
